What ReelCount does

ReelCount is a screen time tracker that counts the number of short-form videos you watch on YouTube (Shorts), Instagram (Reels), Facebook (Reels), Snapchat (Spotlight), and TikTok. It shows you daily and weekly totals, time spent, and usage patterns.

What data ReelCount collects

ReelCount collects and stores the following data on your device:

• The number of short-form videos watched per platform per day
• The timestamps of each video watched (date and time, not content)
• The total time spent in each short-form feed per session
• The number of times each app is opened per day

ReelCount does not collect:

• Any content from your screen (no text, images, or video is read or recorded)
• Your name, email address, phone number, or any personal identifier
• Your location
• Your contacts
• Passwords or any credentials
• Any data from apps other than the five listed above

Where your data is stored

All data is stored locally on your device using Android's SharedPreferences storage. Nothing is uploaded to any server. ReelCount has no backend, no database, no analytics service, and no network connection to any external service.

How ReelCount accesses other apps

ReelCount uses Android's Accessibility Service API to detect when you are watching short-form videos in YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and TikTok. This is the only mechanism Android provides for detecting activity inside another app without that app sharing data directly.

The Accessibility Service observes screen navigation events (window changes and scroll gestures) only within the five apps listed above. It does not read, capture, or transmit any content from those apps. It only detects the presence of specific short-form video feed screens and counts scroll events within them.

ReelCount also uses Android's UsageStatsManager API to count how many times you open each of the five tracked apps per day. This is the same data source used by Android's built-in Digital Wellbeing feature.

Data sharing

ReelCount does not share any data with any third party. There are no advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, or any other third-party services integrated into ReelCount.

Data deletion

All data is stored on your device. You can delete all ReelCount data at any time by uninstalling the app. Uninstalling the app removes all stored data permanently.

Children

ReelCount does not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13. The app has no account system and collects no personal information. The app is suitable for all ages.

Changes to this policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at the same URL with an updated "Last updated" date.
